Maui Tropical Plantation

Despite having just had breakfast at Kula Lodge, following our viewing of the Haleakalā sunrise, I was anxious to try out The Mill House located on the Maui Tropical Plantation.

You guys.

It was amazing.

food at the Mill House

All of the food at The Mill House is grown on the property, so naturally, we had to go for a dish featuring lots of vegetables like the Farmhouse salad. Even though the salad was pretty standard, it did feature a few ingredients I was shocked to discover I actually liked!

Then it was on to explore the property…

The Maui Tropical Plantation is huge! You could easily spend half a day there exploring the grounds as well as trying the food and drink. In fact, the grounds are so large, they have a train they use to tour guests. Unfortunately, our time was rather limited, so we focused our efforts on the locations our feet could easily carry us, as well as trying the food at the Mill House, the coffee house, and exploring the gift shop.

Address: 9347, 1670 Honoapiilani Hwy #1, Wailuku, HI 96793
Hours: 8am-9pm (daily)
* The train runs every hour on the hour between 10am and 4pm. The cost to ride is $20 for adults and $10 for kids.
** If you are adventurous, considering touring the property by zip line!

At the Mill House Roasting Company, they teach you how they roast coffee, then ask how strong you want your coffee before making you a cup. The coffee at the Mill House was my husband's first experience tasting Hawai'ian coffee and he fell in love! … I don't drink coffee, so I didn't have much of an opinion. 😉

Hours: 10am-4pm (daily)

Sadly, we skipped out on ice cream from The Scoop and couldn't find an employee to help us at the Kumu Farms organic produce store. Purchasing fresh veggies from the farm is quite appealing after you've eaten at the Mill House! But it was probably for the best since we wouldn't have had anywhere to cook them…

Maui Tropical Plantation train

If you visit on special nights you can eat from the Chef's Table, selections from the Chef made with ingredients grown on the Maui Tropical Plantation. I bet it's a treat and would love to do it if I ever return to Maui!

The plants at the Maui Tropical Plantation were beautiful and unique to the Hawai'ian islands. We had so much fun exploring the plantation! We only wish we had had more time…

Are you a fan of the farm to table fad? Have you ever had food at a working farm before? Would you consider it if there was one nearby?

It's day five in the A-Z blog challenge! This month I'll be sharing all about my five year anniversary in Hawai'i – providing insight into the places I went, reviewing the hotels I stayed at, and telling my story. Today's letter was E for ESCAPING traditional beach activities on Maui Island!
